On February 23, the Arcadia chapter of the Rotary International Club will unveil and dedicate an old-time tower clock to the City of Arcadia. Rotary International celebrates its 100th anniversary next week.
Qualified low and moderate-income homeowners may receive up to $7500 for the rehabilitation of single-family owner-occupied homes through the Arcadia Planning Dept.'s Housing Rehabilitation Program. This program is financed with Community Development Block Grant Funds, and monies are available on a first-come first-served basis through June 30, 1990.

The Salvation Army has opened Oakcrest Adult Rehabilitation Center in Arcadia. The Oakcrest residence is a free, six month residential treatment program for women overcoming drug and alcohol addictions. It is located at 180 West Huntington Drive.
7-year-old Maria Lugo Rocha of Sinaloa, Mexico, is recovering after a surgery to remove a bone tumor from her chin, performed last week at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. LIGA International, a non-profit group of medical experts, pilots and volunteers, helped to bring the girl to Arcadia to have the surgery.
The Housing Rehabilitation Project will receive $165,000 of the $238,250 Community Development Block Grant funds that Arcadia receives from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. Recent changes in HUD's regulations require that no less than 70% of a grantee's funds go toward programs that help those with low and moderate incomes.
9-year-old Maria Lugo came to Arcadia Arcadia Methodist Hospital from Mexico to have a steel plate removed from her chin. It was a follow-up surgery to a softball-size tumor removal she had in April, 2008, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Dr. Jon Tyrell, a member of LIGA International, and Dr. B.S. Chandrasekhar operated on her. LIGA International is a non-profit group of medical experts, pilots and volunteers who travel to clinics in Sinaloa, Mexico several times a year.
