The City Council voted to allow the developer, Anoakia Oaks, to proceed with the tearing down of Anoakia, the 1913 Anita Baldwin mansion, and to build 31 houses on the property.

Seven firefighters were injured in Arcadia house fire on White Oak Drive. The Arcadia Fire Department (AFD) required assistance from Monrovia, Sierra Madre, El Monte, and Los Angeles County. Six from AFD were treated at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. The seventh firefighter, from Sierra Madre Fire Department, remained hospitalized in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital in Pasadena. The house sustained extensive loss. Nearby residents wondered if the AFD needed so much help from outside fire departments because of recent cuts to the AFD.
Thirty-seven portable classrooms-or nearly half the campus - are being used to house students at Arcadia High School while the school undergoes and $8.5 million renovation.
Arcadia Republican Bob Margett beat Monrovia Democrat Brent Decker in a special election Tuesday in the 59th Assembly District. Margett will replace Republican Richard Mountjoy, a Monrovia Republican who left the house in January.
