Because of budget cuts, the nearly 50-year-old Santa Anita Courthouse jail in Monrovia is expected to close. According to Arcadia Police Chief David Hinig, the closing of the Santa Anita Court will follow within months. Closing of the lockup will affect both Arcadia and Monrovia police departments.
Isaac Campbell, suspect in the murder of his girlfriend Liya Lu, has been extradited from Minnesota and will face charges here. He is being held at Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
73-year-old Jesus Plasencia Lopez from El Monte has been arrested for a fatal hit-and-run. He allegedly drove a Saturn that hit Guey-Ying Wu and her husband Chia Wu at Santa Anita Avenue and Camino Real Avenue in Arcadia. Lopez is being held at Los Angeles County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The FBI will settle a lawsuit brought by Josh Connole for $100,000. He was wrongly jailed for the SUV (sport utility vehicle) arson attacks in the San Gabriel Valley, including a dealership in Arcadia, in August 2003.

Arcadia City Council has authorized the Arcadia Fire Department to spend $184,682 to buy an urban search and rescue truck and $64,408 on 100 ballistic vests for the Arcadia Police Department.
