Two Arcadia men have been sentenced to serve 90 days in the Los Angeles County Jail after pleading guilty to drug charges arising from the undercover investigation at the high school.
James Bates of Arcadia was ordered to spend 6 months in county jail for the freeway deaths of Denise Wilson and David Hawkins. A two-year sentence was suspended. Bates is on five years probation and must abstain from use of alcoholic beverages. Though Bates had been drinking during the afternoon before, his blood alcohol level was only .03 after the 1 A.M. accident.
Dexter Jones, 72, long active in Arcadia civic affairs, died at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. He was a local attorney, a former member of the Arcadia Board of Education and the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce.
The Arcadia Board of Education will ratify a contract with the Arcadia Teachers Association. Still to be settled are contracts with classified employees and with the Arcadia Pupil Support Services Association.
Rebecca "Becky" Denney, was named Miss Arcadia 1981 by the Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association. She will represent Arcadia in the January 1981 Pasadena Rose Parade.
The Arcadia Educational Foundation has provided the Arcadia Unified School District with approximately $45,000 needed to create a new science laboratory at Arcadia High School.
