Arcadian Darlis Clark, who sued the LA Police Dept. for allegedly lying to a judge and falsifying information to obtain a search warrant to search her home in June, 1987, lost her federal civil rights lawsuit in a 6-0 verdict. The LAPD had hoped to link Clark in an investigation of ZZZBest carpet cleaning whiz kid Barry Minkow and organized crime.
Test scores of Arcadia Unified School District's seniors rose this year. The reading score was 294 (up 19 points) while math score was 333 (up 20 points). Since 1987-88, students moved from the 77th to the 85th percentile in reading and from the 89th to the 96th percentile in math statewide.

Mary Bittner, 79, is retiring from the Arcadia Welfare and Thrift Shop after 33 years on the governing board and 4 years as welfare director. Ms. Bittner will move to a retirement community in San Luis Obispo.
Vons Market, which operates 328 grocery stores in Southern California, has moved its corporate headquarters from El Monte to Michillinda Avenue, between Sunset Boulevard and Huntington Drive. The Board of Education has approved a new after-school child care program to be conducted by the Santa Anita Family branch of the YMCA at the Holly Avenue Elementary School Youth Hut. About 20 children have been enrolled in the program, which can accommodate up to 35.
The non-profit World Space Foundation has been chosen to lead a team of U.S. engineers that will design and build a space probe that will use large, plastic sails to catch the feather-light pressure of sunlight to power its journey to the moon and Mars. Organizers hope the probe will be launched into orbit by the European Airiane rocket at the end of 1992.

A group of parents plans to ask the school board to cancel the performance of the play "Secrets" at Foothill Junior High since it addresses the issues of AIDS and birth control without, as they see it, meeting state education guidelines because it does not stress abstinence from intercourse as an alternative.
A request from a group of parents that the play "Secrets", dealing with AIDS and birth control, be cancelled at Foothills Junior High has been unanimously denied by the Arcadia Board of Education. Sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and performed throughout the state, the play was requested by parents at the junior high level after it was shown last year at Arcadia High School.
The City Council has moved closer to limiting high-rise construction in Arcadia by endorsing zoning changes that will allow fewer floors in future buildings.
