"Captive Girl" Susan (aka 'Genie') Wiley's father Clark Wiley committed suicide. Clark Wiley shot himself minutes before he was to have appeared in Alhambra Municipal Court on charges of child abuse. Susan Wiley was living in an environment of total isolation and deprivation and was malnourished. She cannot talk, is deformed, barely able to walk and is not toilet trained. The Arcadia Unified School District is planning an ambitious expansion of its academic programs in 1974. Career guidance, library resources centers and reading programs will be emphasized.
Don Decker announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for Assemblyman in the newly created 61st Assembly district. The new district includes Arcadia, Azusa, Bradbury, Duarte, Irwindale, Monrovia, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City and Sierra Madre.
