Arcadia board reaffirms use of Apache name. The school board revisited the issue of the use of the Apache name and symbol by Arcadia High School. A home built by the Barker family of Barker Brothers fame will be the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. Designed by architect Roland Coate in the early 1940's, the house sits on a large corner lot in the Upper Rancho area of Arcadia.

The Salvation Army has opened Oakcrest Adult Rehabilitation Center in Arcadia. The Oakcrest residence is a free, six month residential treatment program for women overcoming drug and alcohol addictions. It is located at 180 West Huntington Drive.
Demolition permits have been approved and the project of building new homes where the Anoakia mansion stands is now underway. Artifacts from the mansion have been given to the Arcadia Historical Society and the Arboretum.
Arcadia Planning Commission voted 5-0 to reject a proposal for a crematory to be built on First Avenue, next to Arcadia Mortuary at 500 S. First Avenue. The application came from Jim Larkin, who operates Arcadia Mortuary. The proposal drew criticism from neighbors and other Arcadia residents, with pickets.
A class action lawsuit is allegedly underway against Safeway Inc. The claim is that a store manager at one of their locations was peeping at women in the restroom. Carpenters Local 409 also claim Vons has been negligent in paying standard wages to carpenters.
