The City Council voted Tuesday to impose a temporary ban on new Karaoke clubs after police reported such clubs increasingly attract gangs and lawlessness.
Rhythm Karaoke Club was closed by owners tired of the problems associated with it, such as 2 shootings in 4 months and a recent citation for serving alcohol to minors.
The City Council agreed that private karaoke rooms, which have been associated with criminal activity in the area, should be barred from the city. The proposed ordinance, which will be considered August 3rd, would allow alcohol in restaurants with karaoke.
The City Council voted 5-0 to extend the 45-day moratorium on karaoke permits to 10 months, following city officials' reports recommending further study.

Six sets of golf clubs have been stolen in the past five weeks from Santa Anita Golf Course. Authorities are conducting undercover sting operations and encouraging golfers to monitor their possessions.
