A 13-year-old girl named Susan Wiley was reportedly a prisoner in her home for all of her life until a social worker discovered the child abuse. Susan's parents Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley were arrested. The family home is at 6722 Golden West Avenue, in a county area of Arcadia. "Captive Girl" Susan (aka 'Genie') Wiley's father Clark Wiley committed suicide. Clark Wiley shot himself minutes before he was to have appeared in Alhambra Municipal Court on charges of child abuse. Arcadian Darlis Clark, who sued the LA Police Dept. for allegedly lying to a judge and falsifying information to obtain a search warrant to search her home in June, 1987, lost her federal civil rights lawsuit in a 6-0 verdict. The LAPD had hoped to link Clark in an investigation of ZZZBest carpet cleaning whiz kid Barry Minkow and organized crime.
Janet S. Maynard was arrested for trying to raffle off her $250,000 home for $25 a ticket. She organized the raffle because she has been unable to sell the house and was facing foreclosure.
Grace Clark has retired after more than 21 years with the Arcadia Public Library. She was City Librarian for a number of years and has been head of the Technical Services Department for the past 15 years.
