17 students at Arcadia Alternative High School signed up as owner/operators of Medi-Kit Company, part of a 13-week Junior Achievement program sponsored by the Arcadia Rotary Club. The Medi-Kit auto safety first-aid kits sell for $8.

Arcadia George A. Bolton, social science instructor at San Bernardino Valley College and Craafton Hills College, Yucaipa, has been included in the recent edition of "Who's Who in California." Bolton is a staff analyst for the department of environmental health services for San Bernardino County, while continuing to teach part-time at the colleges. He was honored after a personal/training study he published received national attention.
Arcadia High School student Asha Jayasinghe is known for her astonishing speed. She won the National Jesse Owens Championship in the 400 meters and was inducted into the Jesse Owens Hall of Fame as a junior athlete. She is profiled.
The Arcadia Rotary Club awarded grants totaling $4,990 to 17 teachers at the February 13 Arcadia Board of Education meeting. Grants ranging from $175 to $300 were given to individual teachers to help with special classroom projects. The teachers represented 5 of the 6 Arcadia elementary schools, all 3 junior high schools and both Arcadia and Huntington high schools.
The Arcadia Unified School Board discussed the possible reconfiguration of the district's grade levels in hopes of dealing with overcrowding at the junior high level. Most of the public that asked to address the issue spoke out against it.

Bob and Renee Samich, owners of Newsom's Junior Bootery, are retiring after running the shoe store for 20 years. They are closing the store due to a combination of rising rent, a lack of walk-in traffic on Baldwin Avenue and a change in the children's shoe market. The store has been in operation for 53 years.
Cal Poly Pomona student Melissa Cripe, 20, will work with junior high students to solve personal problems without resorting to violence as part of the AmeriCorps program, a $360 million national program launched by President Clinton to act as a domestic version of the Peace Corps.
Daniel Tiberi, 43, who teaches psychology courses at Pasadena Community College, was arrested for having a "major home-based marijuana garden" in his Arcadia Avenue home. He was booked on "suspicion of cultivating marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute."
David Ma, defeated candidate for the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, has been charged with a misdemeanor for violating city sign posting restrictions.
