25% of a $10,000 goal for the new Jerry Broadwell children's room has been pledged. A benefit concert will be held on December 17 at the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium and proceeds will be shared by the High School and the Broadwell Fund.
30 people were injured on opening day at Santa Anita Park when two men became involved in an altercation. One dropped a gun and this was enough to cause a wave of panic which spread through the crowd.

Approval was given by the Planning Commission to a group which wants to open Marquee West in the former bowling alley on Morlan Place. The owners plan to bring various musical groups to the facility. There will be no drugs or liquor allowed.
The Arcadia Police Department has decided against a strike at this time, but vowed to fight City Hall over a contract dispute. A 5% salary increase was approved, but not the extensive retirement benefits which were sought.
Arcadia Police Department has received a grant of $142,286 to set up a trial traffic safety program. It is enough to purchase one extra car and pay the salaries of three policemen who have indicated an interest. The goal is to reduce personal injury and fatal traffic collisions by 3% each year.
Arcadia teachers picketed the open house at Arcadia High School to protest the 1978-79 raise offered by the Arcadia Board of Education. The teachers claim they received a 3.5% salary adjustment (vs. the average San Gabriel Valley increase of 5.5%) while the Board claims a 5% increase retroactive to December 1, 1978.
Arcadia would lose approximately $472,268 yearly if Santa Anita Park race track were to close down and the 324 acre facility were to be developed with low density residential units. Losses would be partially offset by $190,750 in new property taxes and $278,482 miscellaneous taxes. New city services would account for a 6.18% increase in the city budget.

A benefit gala opening will be held on October 12, 1974. The opening for the general public will be October 14, 1974, with ceremonies beginning at 10:00 A.M.
A Bicentennial Park will be dedicated February 17, 1977. Located at the southwest corner of Longden and 6th, the park is 1/2 acre in size. It is the latest of 11 mini parks throughout the city.
Bill Quiggle, who has been Santa Anita Park track superintendent since 1949, retired at the end of the 1977 racing season. The track and all plantings were his domain.
