Aaron Sharp of Port Hueneme posted a time of 15:01 to win his third straight Santa Anita Derby Day 5K at Santa Anita Park last Saturday. It was the 20th anniversary of the race.
Arcadia celebrates its 100th birthday on August 5, 2003. The date reflects the anniversary of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors certifying the results of the cityhood election. Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin was talking about creating a city as early as 1886. He wanted to name the city Baldwin. On July 27, 1903, thirty-nine residents voted for cityhood.

Arcadia Community Center celebrates 10th anniversary with State Senator Robert Margett, Mayor Mickey Segal and Juventino Gomez from Mike Antonovich's office.
Arcadia Methodist Hospital celebrates 60th anniversary. It opened in May 1957 with 138 beds. It had relocated from Los Angeles, where it served Angelenos for the previous five decades.
Arcadia Presbyterian Church's 100th anniversary (centennial) will feature a choral and organ concert. John Henken will conduct the chorus and Tabitha Henken will be the organ accompanist.
Arcadia's Gilb Museum celebrates 20th anniversary with a new exhibit and guided tour with a behind-the-scenes look at the museum's collections. Arcadia tenor Todd Wilander is a featured soloist in the Verdi Chorus 35th anniversary concert. He grew up in Arcadia and attended Arcadia High School in the late 1980s. He was a member of “Chanteurs” and sang in the Arcadia Presbyterian Church choir.
As part of National Police Week, a memorial ceremony was held at the Episcopal Church of Transfiguration in memory of those officers killed in 1998 in the line of duty. A photo of Albert Edward Matthies, the only Arcadia police officer ever killed in the line of duty, was on the altar.
