A 13-year-old girl named Susan Wiley was reportedly a prisoner in her home for all of her life until a social worker discovered the child abuse. Susan's parents Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley were arrested. The family home is at 6722 Golden West Avenue, in a county area of Arcadia. Susan Wiley was living in an environment of total isolation and deprivation and was malnourished. She cannot talk, is deformed, barely able to walk and is not toilet trained. The Arcadia City Council has authorized a project to build concrete sidewalks adjacent to Camino Grove, First Avenue, Hugo Reid Primary, Dana and Holly Avenue schools.
The Arcadia City Council has recommended approval of a contract with Steiny and Company, Inc. to update the traffic light system on Baldwin Avenue. Arcadia High School students accepted a third-place trophy for their performance in the 40th Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon. The third-place award is for the North Los Angeles County region. Countywide, Arcadia ranked ninth, compared with its fourth-place finish in 1988.
