A 3-year-old boy died when the car he was riding in was struck by a stolen vehicle being chased by Arcadia Police. The suspect that stole the car has been identified as Sara Bravo, 26, of La Puente.

A 13-year-old girl named Susan Wiley was reportedly a prisoner in her home for all of her life until a social worker discovered the child abuse. Susan's parents Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley were arrested. The family home is at 6722 Golden West Avenue, in a county area of Arcadia. Susan Wiley was living in an environment of total isolation and deprivation and was malnourished. She cannot talk, is deformed, barely able to walk and is not toilet trained. 15-year-old Arcadia resident Erica Wu, a student at Westridge School, will compete in table tennis (ping pong) at the Pan American Games this month in Guadalajara, Mexico.
17-year-old Arcadia High School student Courtney Chou Lee has been named the 91st Rose Queen. Six other young ladies are princesses including another AHS student, Lauren Valenzuela. A 21-year-old woman was the third person raped at gunpoint this year, and police suspect that they may be by the same person. All three women were accosted by an African American man in his 20's or 30's wearing a black cap. They were accosted in the early morning with a gun while alone in their cars.
23 Arcadia High School students capped third-place honors in the California State Finals of the National Bicentennial Competition. A 50-foot-long "Sport of Kings" float will be the Arcadia entry in the 106th Rose Parade, whose theme is "Sports-Quest for Excellence." On the float, 5 horses are racing past a gazebo, featuring Arcadia's Royal Court, to the finish line. The 2 lead horses will be ridden by jockeys.
