A 19-year-old man who was killed in a house fire in Arcadia was identified as Cheng Ming Dai of San Gabriel. A 16-year-old remains in critical condition and may be arrested and charged with arson. The house was located at 130 West Longden Avenue.
Arcadia police officers honor Albert Matthies, the city's only police officer killed in the line of duty, with a ceremony and a plaque, 80 years after his death. The plaque is on the 1000 block of North View Avenue.
Arcadia resident Thomas V. McKernan, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Automobile Club of California, has been elected president of the non-profit Los Angeles Police Foundation, which was created to help fund police safety programs.
A black-tie centennial ball was held in Ayres Hall at Los Angeles County Arboretum, with a Greek theme. Dinner was catered by The Derby Restaurant. Details have been released on the deaths of Alan Cheung of Monterey Park and Edward Chin of Arcadia. Their charred bodies were found in the desert, west of the Barstow (15) Freeway on October 26, 2003.
Dr. Edward Castner won the election to be Chief of Staff at Arcadia Methodist Hospital last fall. However, the election was mired in politics. Charges of disloyalty were made against opposing candidate Dr. Dino Clarizio, according to documents that recently became available.
Dr. William E. White will be honored by the Alpha Auxiliary of the Methodist Hospital foundation. White has practiced for 40 years in the Sierra Madre and Arcadia areas.
