An armed man barricaded himself in his trailer at Santa Anita Village mobile home park in a daylong standoff ending with the man's shooting. His name was not released, and he was taken to the local hospital.
Arcadia resident Frank Hartog, who for 42 years served customers, schools and community groups, has sold his Sir JAX deli and will retire. He is being honored with a retirement party given by the El Monte Police department.

Paymaster accounts total $11 million at Santa Anita Park. The accounts contain money earmarked for winning owners, who must pay a percentage of those earnings to jockeys and trainers. Magna Entertainment Corp. has lost $500 million in the past 5 years.

Former Hooters restaurant manager Juan M. Aponte of Arcadia was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony accounts, including making secret video recordings of women being interviewed for jobs.
Frank Rubio, a 77-year old Temple City resident, was found dead in the side yard of a house in the 500 block of Las Tunas Drive. He had wandered away from a concert park and was missing for about 10 days. He appeared to have died from exposure.
