Actor and activist George Takei, 75, famous for his portrayal of Sulu on television series Star Trek, will talk about gay rights and a childhood spent in internment camps at Santa Anita Park (assembly center), Tule Lake and Rohwer, Arkansas, during World War II. An activist group called Save the Arcadia Highlands is suing the City of Arcadia over two residential developments that Arcadia City Council approved in February, citing possible violations to "specific provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the California Planning and Zoning Law, filed March 12. Arcadia Chamber of Commerce has named Alice Wang "Arcadia's Citizen of the Year" for 2012-2013. Alice has been a very active volunteer with Arcadia Public Library Foundation, Assistance League of Arcadia's Operation School Bell, Tzu Chi Foundation's MWLA, Arcadia Historical Museum, Arcadia Police Department, Arcadia Chinese Association and Foothill Unity Center.

Arcadia City Council delays vote on Arcadia Highlands home building projects. Council will address the matter again on February 3, to allow for more time to vet newly received petitions from area residents and a detailed letter from an attorney representing a leading opponent of the developments, that the City received last week. Both projects, one at 1600 Highland Oaks Drive, the other at 29 East Orange Grove Avenue, and both designed by Robert Tong of Arcadia-based Sanyao International Inc., involve the demolition of vintage homes to make room for larger residences.

Arcadia City's legal team and traffic safety experts re-created the scene of the crash that killed Arcadia teen Alice Zhang, 16, of Arcadia, and badly injured her friend Priyanka Patel of Upland, on April 10, 2011. The driver, Bowen Du, 20, of Arcadia, has been sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.
Arcadia High School boys Sergio Gonzalez (Runner of the Year), Ryan Vargas, Mitchell Pratt and Estevan DeLaRosa, have been named to 2011 All-Area Cross Country boys first team. James O'Brien of Arcadia High School, is named Coach of the Year. Francis Lee of Arcadia High School, is on the second team.
