Actor and activist George Takei, 75, famous for his portrayal of Sulu on television series Star Trek, will talk about gay rights and a childhood spent in internment camps at Santa Anita Park (assembly center), Tule Lake and Rohwer, Arkansas, during World War II. He will be speaking at Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday.

Aiad Barakat, 45, of Arcadia, whose application for citizenship has been approved by a United States District judge, is under appeal by the Bush administration. The Justice Department filed the appeal because of Barakat's alleged ties to a Palestinian organization believed to be terrorist.
Alhambra Superior Court Judge Alice Hill found "sufficient cause" to hold Isaac Campbell, 34, to be tried for the murder of Liya "Jessie" Lu. He will be arraigned May 7.

An activist group called Save the Arcadia Highlands is suing the City of Arcadia over two residential developments that Arcadia City Council approved in February, citing possible violations to "specific provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the California Planning and Zoning Law, filed March 12. Another lawsuit has been filed against Hooters restaurant chain and a former manager, Juan Aponte. Seanna Mitchell of Covina alleges sexual harassment, invasion of privacy and negligent supervision.
Arcadia Chamber of Commerce has named Alice Wang "Arcadia's Citizen of the Year" for 2012-2013. Alice has been a very active volunteer with Arcadia Public Library Foundation, Assistance League of Arcadia's Operation School Bell, Tzu Chi Foundation's MWLA, Arcadia Historical Museum, Arcadia Police Department, Arcadia Chinese Association and Foothill Unity Center.
