An ordinance has been adopted to regulate adult entertainment facilities as Arcadia faces the opening of a juice bar/alcohol free nude dancing club planned for 1580 Clark Street. A possible lawsuit was planned if the City denied the business from opening.
Arcadia High School's advanced placement government class will enter the "We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution" Constitutional law competition in Sacramento, with the winning team to go the the national finals in late April. The same coach, Ron Morris, led a team to the national title in 1993.
Arcadian Darlis Clark, who sued the LA Police Dept. for allegedly lying to a judge and falsifying information to obtain a search warrant to search her home in June, 1987, lost her federal civil rights lawsuit in a 6-0 verdict. The LAPD had hoped to link Clark in an investigation of ZZZBest carpet cleaning whiz kid Barry Minkow and organized crime.
The Arcadia Unified School District is undergoing a massive renovation project incorporating all 10 campuses. Seven of the campuses are under construction, six of which will be completed by September, when two others will go into construction phase.
The boundaries for the 6 elementary and 3 middle schools are going to be changed so that enrollments at each of the schools are more balanced. About 300 of the district's 6000 students will be affected by the changes.
Citizens Organized for Police Station (COPS) was formed to educate residents and gain their support for the bond issue needed to finance a new police station. Santa Anita Park has donated $30,000 to the newly formed organization.
