The Arcadia Beautiful Commission presented its annual awards in a ceremony to honor residential and business owners for outstanding landscaping and overall appearances. Business owners awarded were Union 76, Sav-on Drugs, and the Baldwin Plaza.

A ceremony was held for the moving of a memorial plaque dedicated to Captain Jerry Broadwell. He is the only Arcadia firefighter to die in the line of duty. The plaque has been moved to Station 2.
Eddie Delahoussaye retired after a riding mishap on August 30, 2002. He fractured his neck and suffered a bad concussion. As he stood before adoring fans to receive an honor at Santa Anita Park race track, he wished he was still riding. He is a longtime resident of Arcadia.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Arcadia's new 911 Center on a 3.5 acre parcel where the National Guard Armory once stood adjacent to the Arcadia Police Department.
