More than 1,200 low income children received clothing and supplies for the school year at the 8th Annual Back-to-School Distribution at Santa Anita Park race track.
Podiatrist socks it to Union Station. Dr. Shelley Gath, a podiatrist in Arcadia, donated 495 pairs of socks to the homeless charity Union Station. Dr. Gath operates Vantage Foot and Ankle Center in Arcadia.
Red Cross selling Pasadena estate on Millionaire's Row for $10.5 million. It was named for John S. Cravens and has been the headquarters for San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter of the Red Cross. The Red Cross and its workers in Arcadia will move to an easily accessible Huntington Drive office.
Santa Anita Park and City of Hope are joining forces to raise money to fight cancer with the first "On Track to Beat Cancer" walk, this Sunday at the race track. It is a 1/4 fundraising walk. All proceeds raised will go toward City of Hope's Women's Cancer Program for research, treatment and education.
St. Baldrick's Foundation held its annual fundraising event at Matt Denny's Ale House. More than 70 volunteers got their family, friends and co-workers to give donations for them to shave their heads. Their baldness helps raise awareness of cancer and shows solidarity with the childhood cancer patients. Arcadia firefighter Drew Pryon is shown in photographs with children.
Students, Santa Anita Park jockeys to raise money for charities in annual charity basketball game to benefit permanently disabled jockeys, high school athletics and foundation for children with a rare neurological disorder.
Women are stronger together. The Wandering Foot Quilt Guild meets in Arcadia. This group of women teaches quilting and gives back to the community by giving 50-70 items a month to USC Medical Center for low income people with illnesses.
