A class action lawsuit is allegedly underway against Safeway Inc. The claim is that a store manager at one of their locations was peeping at women in the restroom. Carpenters Local 409 also claim Vons has been negligent in paying standard wages to carpenters.
Construction of a Vons Market west of Baldwin Avenue between Duarte Road and Naomi Avenue may depend on whether the East Pasadena Water Company accepts the City Council's proposal allowing the city to extend its line into the water company's territory at the western end of the Vons development. In a unanimous vote, Arcadia City Council deals a blow to builder KVH Design Group, rejecting the developer's appeal and their plans to build a nearly 7,000 square foot two-story single-family house at 211 Monte Place. The Highlands Homeowners Association (HOA) Architectural Review Board (ARB) had turned down the plans on grounds that the proposed home was "incompatible in mass and scale to the surrounding buildings in the neighborhood." Arcadia City Council agreed.
Jack in the Box announced it will no longer buy hamburger patties from Vons. This comes a week after a severe food poisoning outbreak linked to Jack in the Box left 2 children dead and at least 75 people hospitalized.
Jack in the Box officials blamed a food poisoning outbreak that led to one death and the hospitalization of at least 70 persons from Seattle to San Diego on a shipment of contaminated hamburgers traced to Arcadia-based Vons. Vons has denied its meat processing plant in El Monte was the source of the problem.
Jockey Rodolfo Arvizu will receive the 2014 White Horse Award for his selfless effort to rescue fellow jockey Annie Von Rosen this past March, when her horse suddenly collapsed and trapped her underneath, at Turf Paradise. The White Horse Awards will take place at The Derby Restaurant in Arcadia, October 30.
A large demonstration was held at the Vons division headquarters on Michillinda Avenue in an effort by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union to get the corporation to settle the labor dispute that has lasted for more than three months.
