Located on SW corner of the same intersection there was, in addition to the Service Station, a dry cleaners, a bakery, a fresh vegetable market, a meat market, a grocery store, and the Pines Cafe. First Avenue is street seen on the left.

Shopping Bag Market is on northeast corner of this intersection (Currently, the site of a Denny's Restaurant, noted 6/19/2013). Pine's Cafe was still located near the SW corner of Huntington Drive and First Avenue. A sign reading "19 cent Burger" in the middle is prominent, as if "Real Pit Bar-B-Q" on the left.
Shopping Bag Market (which is listed in 1939 City Directory at 1225 S. Baldwin) and the West Arcadia Service Station (apparently owned at this time by Blake Smith and Bruce Wetmore), located at 1221 S. Baldwin.

Review by Merrill Shindler - Asian market is authentic. 99 Ranch Market chain has hundreds of good things at its multiple San Gabriel locations, including one in Arcadia. Its mission is to offer authentic Chinese ingredients to underserved Chinese-American communities across America.
Looking toward east side of Baldwin in first block south of Duarte Road. Newsom's Bootery was at 1206 S. Baldwin. Cars parked parallel to the curb in front of the shops.

British food giant Tesco is going to open Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Markets in West Covina and Arcadia on November 8, 2007. Fresh and Easy stores are relatively small and lean heavily on fresh food offerings, including prepared meals and sushi.
