The library does not have a print of this negative. A print appears on p.35 of WHERE RANCH AND CITY MEET. The negative was reproduced from a deck of Baldwin playing cards. This one portrays the Baldwin Winery. Printed along the bottom are the words THE WINERY.
Winery (brick portion of building) built according to Lupe Cuellar, in 1876. Shed built of wood was added later and converted to carpentry shop for Santa Anita Race Track. Winery was located on low hills just north of present race track building.
Vineyards on Baldwin Ranch. View is north from a point of present Huntington Drive. Chantry Flats Road is visible at right edge of photo. San Gabriel Mountains form background.
Aerial view due south from a position almost directly over sharp curve of Colorado Street. Showing in this photo are the Track and Club House on a day of large attendance, the stables, and a training track. All along Huntington Drive and Colorado Street young trees have been planted. Old-time resident Reid Greer says that the large tree at the very left edge of photo about 2 1/2 in. from bottom is same tree as seen in photo #654, on flat ground just below knolls seen here, and therefore he places homes of Indians on ranch at this spot. E.J."Lucky" Baldwin winery is only building seen on knoll. There is an "x" on reverse side to mark location. This photo belongs to the Huntington Library. It is shown here for research only.
Baldwin Ranch Store. A large two story building with cupola atop. On wooden siding is painted: Dry Goods Fancy Goods Groceries and Provisions Brandies Wines. It stands under tall eucalyptus trees. Joe Buck, resident, locates it at gate on what is now Old Ranch Road.

This is another of the backs of the Baldwin playing cards. Shows the winery. Also in photo, two horses hitched to a wagon. People in wagon and also sitting and standing nearby.
Apparently photo of Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin taken beside lake on Baldwin Ranch when he was quite elderly. Printing across photo reads: Baldwins Ranch.
Lovely lane lined on both sides with tall Lombardy Poplars. Man in light buggy is seen driving on the lane, away from camera. From the magazine Outing. According to Sandy Snider from the Arboretum, this lane was to the east of Old Ranch Road in early days of Ranch under Baldwin ownership.
Home of '49 is printed across bottom of this, one of backs of playing cards Baldwin had made with photos from around the ranch. This shows small log cabin which Baldwin purportedly had brought here from his father's farm in Hamilton, Indiana, to remind him of his beginnings.
Photo taken from Arcadia Tribune issue of August 3, 1950 that shows Elias J."Lucky" Baldwin standing in front of Queen Anne Cottage with H.H. Cross, an artist who painted a number of important pictures of the Baldwin Ranch. Hal Roach, editor of Arcadia Tribune at this time, does not remember who brought original photo to them.
