Pictured behind the children left to right are Police Chief William Orr and Patrolman William Goodman. The Bicycle Rodeo was a contest in bicycle safety and riding skill. Winners received nighttime riding lights and electric horns. The awards were the culmination of bicycle safety instruction offered at Arcadia playgrounds throughout the summer by William Goodman. This photograph was published in the Arcadia Tribune, August 20, 1956 with the caption: Here comes mama--By all indications from this picture, it looks as if the children weren't the only ones who were having a good time at the recent Arcadia Recreation Department city-wide track meet. The Tribune camera caught Mrs. Mary Turner as she broke the tape in the "feature" race of the afternoon. Running a close second in the event is Mrs. John Panatier followed across the finish line by Mrs. Lucas.

Flamingo Hotel/Motel at 130 W. Huntington, built about 1956 or 1957. Part of Ramada Inn chain. Before it was the Flamingo, the Pony Express Museum was at this address. The Flamingo Hotel (Ramada) stayed here 1955-c. 1984. It reopened as the Santa Anita Inn on February 8, 1986. On the same site, the Le Meridien Hotel, part of the Marriott chain, broke ground in June 2018 and opened in 2021.

This was to be developed into the Arboretum.
Stone house at 58 W. Grandview. Small girl in foreground possibly Dextra Baldwin. Anita Baldwin purchased 22 acres of her father's land for $10.00 on March 8, 1892. (see Arcadia VF-Baldwin, Anita) Anita's father built stone cottage in May 1902 on lot 7 and part of lots 8&9 in block 98 of Santa Anita Tract. (This information came from Mrs. Sharlene Cartier, who owned the house in 1973.)
