Within the next few months several new developments will be cropping up along Huntington Drive: construction of a 7-story office building at 1st Avenue, erection of the Southland National Bank at 5th Avenue, and construction of a Target Department Store at 3rd Avenue. There are also plans to construct a new police station, city hall, senior citizens center and auditorium at a total estimated cost of $19 million.

Construction crews began digging up streets and sidewalks along Huntington Drive in June for the City's Downtown 2000 Renovation Project. Traffic jams, frustrated customers and declining sales have been the result.
The developer of Monrovia's Huntington Oaks shopping center now has an exclusive right to negotiate with the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency to construct a $17.3 million office and restaurant complex on the south side of Huntington Drive between the railroad tracks and the east boundary of the city.
The $4.1 million Downtown 2000 plan will restore the area along Huntington Drive from Santa Clara to 5th Avenue, as well as on 1st Ave. The project should start in June and be completed by the fall racing season.
City Council members voted 4-0 to change lighting plans and add a new storm drain system to the Huntington Drive streetscape project, changing the cost from $4.1 to $5.6 million.

Downtown 2000, the $4 million revitalization project, will primarily affect Huntington Drive and First Ave. Huntington Drive will have more landscaping and lighting, while First Ave. will have angled parking and landscaping to be more pedestrian oriented.
In a significant move to redevelop the east end of town, the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency voted to take 6 landowners to court to obtain their property by condemnation.
The Arcadia Redevelopment Agency may sell 3.74 Acres of land on the northeast corner of Huntington Drive and Second Avenue to Grand Royale Hometel for 1.3 million dollars. After the parcel is sold, the city plans to rezone the property for the developers raising the value to about 3.5 million.
On the eve of a court battle, the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency and the owner of the construction yard property at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Santa Clara Street agreed to terms by which the city will take possession of the land.
City Council approved lending the city redevelopment agency $1.2 million Tuesday to cover additional cost overruns with Downtown 2000 and other projects.
Hedrick Enterprises has shelved a proposed $2.6 million office building for its corporate headquarters at Huntington Drive and Fifth Avenue. A downturn in the economy was the reason for the decision.
Granada Rouale Hometel is interested in building a $10 million hotel at the northeast corner of Second Avenue and Huntington Drive, according to Mike Lloyd, a consultant to Republic Development Company.
