End of an era--Colonial Pharmacy in Arcadia succumbs to a difficult economy. Arcadia's oldest pharmacy, Colonial Pharmacy, which has been serving the community since 1939, will be closing. Owner Mark Burstyn (photo) has worked there since October 1990.

Two pharmacies were burglarized in what appeared to be related crimes. Both Colonial Pharmacy and Live Oak Pharmacy had windows smashed with narcotics being stolen at the Live Oak Pharmacy.

William Woolard, 50, Arcadia Planning Director for 22 years, resigned at the recommendation of City Manager Don Duckworth and a 4-1 City Council vote, with Robert Harbicht opposed. Woolard was asked to leave because of departmental reorganization, Duckworth said.

The Arcadia City Council voted Tuesday night to keep television cameras away from its study sessions. Citing cost as the major factor, the vote was 4-1 with Councilman Sheng Chang dissenting.

Revised cell phone tower proposed by Verizon at Church of the Transfiguration at 1881 S. First Avenue denied. Arcadia Planning Commission voted 3 to 1 to adopt Resolution No. 1970 to deny the proposal.
