A copy of this photo appears in the March 2, 1909 Los Angeles Daily Times pt.II p.8 with the following identification: FAMILY GROUP ON THE LAKE AT SANTA ANITA. Left to right, in boat - Mr. Mathews, Mrs. F.D. Black, Mr. Stocker ("Lucky's son-in-law), Mrs. H.C. Wyatt, in white; Mrs. Stocker (Lucky's daughter) and Mrs. Scott. There are seven people seated in the boat, but only six names are identified in the newspaper article. Article is in Arcadia History file Baldwin, Elias J. Volume I no. 1 issue of first Arcadia newspaper, THE ARCADIA BULLETIN. Paper included an article on the opening of Clara Villa which opened May 3, 1904. The paper has photos of five members of the Board of Trustees (now City Council) and also one of Arcadia's first City Marshall, Elmer Anderson and his brother, Charles Anderson, City Treasurer.

Three people are standing in front of stable area of Elias J."Lucky" Baldwin's Santa Anita Race Track. L-R: Mrs. John (Ella) Ott; eldest son, Donald; and City Marshall, John Ott. (Their daughter told us in 1980 that everyone called her father Jack.) Mrs. Ott is wearing a lavishly feathered hat and a tailored suit. Marshall Ott is wearing a dark double-breasted suit with his badge.
Another view of Oakwood Hotel just after being destroyed by fire. Standing beside structure are an older and younger sister of Vesta Tucker Reeves. Their father was Lowen Tucker, ranch foreman for Elias J."Lucky" Baldwin.
Home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bertolina. It was originally located on California (a street which at this time was 3 blocks south of Duarte Road). It washed off its foundation and was then moved to NW corner of 2nd and Alta. There are broad front steps and stone foundation seen in photo.
Photograph of a yacht. Handwriting along bottom of photo reads, "San Pedro 1915." Possibly the yacht Clara Baldwin Stocker was supposed to have purchased with part of her inheritance from her father, Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin.

A group of four standing in front of recently completed home (and office) for Dr. Fletcher Sanborn at 100 N. First Ave. They are, L-R: Dr. Fletcher Green Sanborn, Mrs. Sanborn, Mrs. Ruth Ayers, Mr John C. Sanborn (father of Dr. Sanborn).
Al Yarter, shoemaker, at his shoe shop which was in building he built in 300 block of N. First Ave. on west side of street. Photo #855 shows exterior of shop.
Ray Ramuz (on tricycle) with his mother Hazel at entrance to the family nursery at 404 S. Santa Anita Ave. Ray is the present (1980) owner of the facility, which became Arcadia Nursery about 1929. Son Ron is currently a partner with his father and will carry on the business.
Mr. Aloyosius Mauch is seen loading blackberries packed in wooden crates onto flatbed truck. A dog sits on top of one crate. Mr. Mauch's sons helped run the five acre ranch which was at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. Information provided by son Henry (86 years old in 1980) and his wife.
Pat Carlin is the small boy standing with the tire in front of service station owned and operated by his father and his aunt, J.A. and M.A. Carlin on the NE corner of First and LaPorte. This building is the same one as shown in photo #490 and which served briefly as City Hall.
Cook & Woodley tract just north of Foothill Blvd. and one block east of Santa Anita Ave. This tract was developed on land owned by Clara Baldwin. House seen on right still stands at SE corner of Sycamore and Oakwood Ave. It was home of James B. Slemons.

Seated in large military truck are, L-R: Bruno Bucher, Cacelie Bucher Mauch, and Master Sgt. William Bucher, step father of the two young people. Truck is parked just inside the fence of Ross Field Balloon School, and at SW corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita. Note: Community Presbyterian Church seen behind them (was later moved to First Ave and Alice Street). Note also, a sign, apparently giving name of base over entry and not readable from this angle.
Home (at right side of photo) and business building owned by Dr. and Mrs. Fletcher G. Sanborn. Home was at 100 N. First and contained the doctor's office for his practice. The office block contained the numbers 102-104 N. First Ave. Photo was taken shortly after completion.
Mr. Dewey Butler is seen sitting on his tractor. The Mauch family knew him very well and he would use his tractor to turn the soil on their ranch as well as his own. This photo was taken at Mauch ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue. In a 1997 conversation between Carol Libby of the Arcadia Historical Society and Lynette Dunn, daughter of Dewey Butler, Mrs. Dunn stated that this photo is not of her father. She said it was possibly her uncle.
