The Arcadia Planning Commission approved the development of a retail shopping center at the corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road. The approval was made after determining that such a project would not cause adverse traffic congestion.
G. Barton Payne and Dr. Robert Kladifko are running as a team in the April 22 school board election. Both strongly oppose the closure of any elementary school except as a last resort. Biographical notes on each are included.

Arcadia-based J. Foley Enterprises, owner of Clearman's Village shopping center at Huntington Drive and Rosemead Boulevard, has proposed building a Kohl's Department Store and refurbishing the Galley Restaurant (The Boat). Residents have complained to the County Planning Commission about the potential blocked view of the San Gabriel Mountains and increased traffic.

Proposed logistics center in Arcadia could impact traffic and El Monte residents. A former gravel mine (quarry) may soon become a 1.6 million square foot logistics center and industrial park on an 81-acre site on the southeastern end of Arcadia. Property owner is John Edwards, Jr. El Monte City Manager Jesus Gomez is working with Arcadia and the developer to protect El Monte residents. With enough mitigation measures, if approved by Arcadia City Council, construction could begin after the reclamation is complete, as early as 2017.
Arcadia City Councilman, Roger Chandler, calls the Planning Commission's proposal for a moratorium on small street corner shopping centers a "knee-jerk reaction."
Arcadia's neighboring cities of San Marino and Pasadena are worried about the impact of mall traffic. Caruso spokesperson Julie Wong says the developer is listening and will respond to all concerns as part of the environmental review process.
Arcadia Olympic Commission has opened its new Olympic Information Center, using space and staff donated by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce. Community volunteers will also staff the center.
