The windmill will stay as part of the redesign of Denny's at the corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. The windmill was originally built for a Van de Kamp's coffee shop in 1967.

A history of the Van de Kamp's windmill atop the Denny's Restaurant currently at the northeast corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. The Arcadia windmill was built nearly 40 years ago as part of an architectural movement called programmatic architecture, or roadside vernacular, wherein the buildings reflected their tenants. Police in seven San Gabriel Valley cities will be able to respond more quickly and effectively to reports of a crime in progress using a new mapping technology installed in a police helicopter operated by Foothill Air Support Team under a joint powers agreement between the cities of Alhambra, Arcadia, Azusa, Covina, Monrovia, Pasadena, and West Covina. The system is linked to a Global Positioning System (GPS).

Gold Line bridge across the 210 Freeway just west of Santa Anita Avenue is underway. There is a temporary support structure across the lanes which allows trucks under 15 feet tall to pass freely. When the structure is complete, the Gold Line Construction Authority says the height allowance will be 19 feet. The $18.6 million, 584-foot Gold Line Bridge, the first component of the 11.5 mile Pasadena to Azusa Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension, started last summer and expected to be completed later this year.

Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority announced that structural work is complete for Gold Line Bridge over Interstate 210 Freeway. "The bridge can now stand on its own," said Construction Authority CEO Habib F. Balian. The bridge is a 584-linear foot, $18.6 million rail bridge that helps extend the Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa, in this first segment.

Trainspotting in Arcadia. First tests of Gold Line light rail between Pasadena and Azusa start. Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension conducted the first of many clearance tests involving actual Metro Gold Line train from Sierra Madre Villa Station (in Pasadena) to Azusa. The train was a $4 million Ansaldo Breda P2250 with specialized gear to test clearances, wheel/rail interface, rail switches, and Overhead Catenary System.

Denny's CEO considers firing up the old windmill in 2016. It is atop the Denny's Restaurant at the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue. It used to be the Van de Kamp's Holland Dutch Bakery, founded in 1915, a Los Angeles institution for much of the 20th century. According to Los Angeles Conservancy, the building was completed in 1967 and designed by Pasadena architects Harold Bissner and Harold Zook. Denny's Corporation CEO Stephen Dunn is happy to explore the possibility of activating the windmill.
