Three views of business areas in Arcadia. On left is south side of Huntington Drive. Arcadia Hardware is still located at 52 E. Huntington Drive as it is shown here. On the right is the Bank of Italy which was located on NE corner of Huntington Drive and First Ave. The building just to the north up First Ave (with awnings) is also still in use.
View north on First Avenue just north of Santa Fe Railroad Tracks. Graves Drug Store on right with a bank next to it. The two story building on SW corner of St. Joseph Street and First was McCoy Building. According to information given by Stu Henderson, current owner of King Pharmacy, the history of Graves Drug Store is as follows: Originally it was opened by Oscar Seaquist, later bought by Walter A. Graves. Some years later it was bought by R.B. and R.B. Bagnall Jr. (circa 1940's) and was relocated to 54 E. Huntington Drive. By 1950 the City directory listed it as owned by A.P.King and has been known by that name since.

Bali House through the jungle in the north shore at lake at the Arboretum. Part of set for the filming of "A Honeymoon in Bali," starring Madelene Carrol and Fred McMurray. Originally it was to be named "Are Husbands Necessary." Directed by F.H. Griffith, June-July, 1939. Gate shows in front of photo with house in rear. Part of house on right side of photo is draped with what looks like a black cloth.

Notice the Arcadia sign that had for many years hung over intersection at First Avenue has been removed (also referred to as a "Welcome" sign). "Sleepy Lagoon," Arcadia's float entry in the 1961 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features the Queen Anne Cottage and three swans. It was designed by James D. Femino. Behind the float are two people carrying banner that reads "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers." "America the Beautiful," Arcadia's float entry in the 1962 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Perched atop red, white and blue shield is a majestic eagle with wings spread. "June Bride," Arcadia's float entry in the 1963 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade features a garden wedding with a water lily pond, and two large trees in the garden with baskets of yellow roses hanging from them. "Cradle of Freedom," Arcadia's float entry in the 1964 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade paid tribute to Sister City Tripolis, Greece. It features columns, ruins of Grecian temple statues and Nike of Samothrace. Four Grecian maidens in native costume ride on the float. "Headlines in Loveliness," Arcadia's float entry in the 1965 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade features a sculptured bowl overflowing with camellias and roses. The Arcadia Court rode on the float. "Winner's Circle," Arcadia's float entry in the 1966 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features an azalea covered blanket forming a huge arch over a fountain. "El Camino Real," Arcadia's float entry in the 1967 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Father Serra, founder of historic California missions, is shown traveling the famed thoroughfare. Arcadia's Queen, Christine Ramos, graces the throne. The scroll is covered with yellow chysanthemums, gladioli, orchids and roses. "I love a parade," Arcadia's float entry in the 1968 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, presented a boy on skates pulling a wagon in which the Arcadia Rose Court rode. "A Day at the Fair," Arcadia's 1969 float entry in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, featured spectators in the grandstand cheering, horses speeding down the homestretch during a day of racing at the fair. In front is a floral fountain. In the center is a revolving tableau with a peacock. "Arcadia Salutes Australia's Waratah's Festival," Arcadia's float entry in the 1970 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features an abstract free-form reminiscent of an English coach. At the forefront is a royal blue peacock. To the rear are kangaroos, koala bears and lyre birds. "Stairway to the Stars," Arcadia's float entry in the 1972 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, featured a large piano keyboard. Riding on the float is the Arcadia Rose Court. "Proud as a Peacock - 200 Years," Arcadia's float entry in the 1976 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, features stylized 12 foot peacocks of white carnation petals gracefully perched in rose-covered trees. The sculptured trees slowly revolve beneath a canopy of roses and carnations.
