Arcadia City Council has put out a design contract for landscaping and streetscape design on Baldwin Avenue between Duarte Road and Naomi Avenue. The contract went to Willdan, not to exceed $64,410. Another project proposes widening of the street to four lanes, 75 feet from curb to curb, with landscaped median, curb parking and additional landscaping, along with street resurfacing, to cost $380,000.
Harris & Associates will design streetscape and landscape improvements for the Santa Anita Entry Corridor, meaning Santa Anita Avenue from Huntington Drive to the Foothill 210 Freeway and on areas adjacent to the Santa Anita Avenue and Baldwin Avenue freeway ramps. The project will include pavement work. The contract for the project is for $107,211.
Freeway sound walls promised for Arcadia and Monrovia appear to be still on schedule, according to the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). The sound walls scheduled for construction as early as 2005 run from Michillinda Avenue to Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia, and from Huntington Drive to California Avenue in Monrovia. Lower priority sound wall project locations are also given.
The new landscaping and bus shelter for the west side of the Arcadia Public Library will cost $152,126.03 and will be done by Mariposa Horticultural Enterprises Inc.
Planning zone change from commercial to multiple residential approved for condominium project at 1510-1516 S. Baldwin Avenue. The applicant is Hang Jong.
Deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects to be done this summer include roofing, re-roofing, painting, kitchen and plumbing work at area schools.
About 1000 feet of sound walls will be built by the westbound lanes of the 210 Foothill Freeway between Second Avenue and Fifth Avenue. There is also discussion of future sound wall construction projects.
California home sales are growing as values fall. A chart of October's median home prices gives a picture of the local real estate landscape. Arcadia's median home price in October, 2008 was $697,500, down 12.1% from the median price of $793,500 in October, 2007.
Arcadia will renovate Baldwin Avenue, Lower Azusa Road and Peck Road during September and October. The renovation is designed to maintain the city's infrastructure.
Apache band captures praise in Arizona. The Arcadia High School Apache Marching Band and Color Guard took part in the White Mountain Apache Fair and rodeo in Arizona. Waken Development L.L.C. breaks ground on a two building lowrise office complex in Arcadia at Santa Clara Street and Fifth Avenue.Completion scheduled for June, 2002. Hale Corporation is a partner in the project and will serve as design/build contractor.
Money from a $19.9 billion statewide transportation bond approved by voters in 2006 is being used for road improvement projects. Arcadia received $900,000 for the rehabilitation of Santa Anita Avenue, which is already under construction. Two photographs of Santa Anita Avenue with captions are included.
Assemblywoman Carol Liu has moved her campaign headquarters to 921 S. Baldwin Avenue, Unit D, in her bid for re-election in the 44th Assembly District. Liu's district stretches from LaCanada to Duarte, including all of Pasadena, and Eagle Rock in Los Angeles.
The proposed site for Arcadia's Gold Line station is just east of Santa Anita Avenue, at the First Avenue/Santa Clara intersection. City leaders want to separate the railroad tracks from the street.
