Frank Stronach, founder and chairman of the board of Magna International Inc., is buying Santa Anita Park from Meditrust. The $126 million purchase is expected to close today.
International businessman and horse owner Frank Stronach confirmed Tuesday that he and Meditrust, the parent company of Santa Anita Park, have signed a letter of intent under which he will buy the race track.
The owners of Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita (formerly Santa Anita Fashion Park), have submitted a request to the city to expand the building by as much as 55 %.

Westfield Santa Anita mall, Santa Anita Park race track, and other businesses cope with power outages and wind damage. Westfield Santa Anita mall was unable to open due to a widespread power outage although power was restored to the center's east end by 4:30 PM yesterday. Santa Anita Park was closed yesterday due to a power outage. The race track also sustained wind-related damage to the roof in its stable area and also had several uprooted trees. Huge, old trees were blown down in Arcadia.
John Shear (pictured), a 5-foot, 110-pound, 90-year-old paddock supervisor at Santa Anita Park, nearly lost his life when he threw himself in the path of a runaway horse on March 12 to protect a little girl he didn't know. He has worked seasonally for Santa Anita Park for nearly 50 years. He sustained a fractured pelvis and other injuries but is recuperating at home now. He is a hero.

H & M, a fashion retailer, will open a store at Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita on December 14, 2006. The store will have fashions for men, women, teens, and lingerie.
