The Gold Line Construction Authority board this week approved an updated expense plan for the entire 23-mile Pasadena-to-Claremont extension of nearly $1.6 billion, of which $810 million has already been allocated, with full completion planned for 2021. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has already funded the Gold Line's 11.5 mile, $750 million Pasadena-to-Azusa segment with Measure R revenues, but the $780 million Azusa-to-Claremont segment has yet to be funded.

New Gold Line Bridge a wonderful gift. The design of the Foothill Basket Bridge was inspired by the indigenous Native American people and wildlife in San Gabriel Valley. The project created local jobs and the bridge was constructed by Skanska USA.
The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority opened bidding yesterday on Phase 2A of the light rail's extension toward Azusa, which would make a stop in Arcadia. The project is estimated to cost more than $450 million with a completion date in 2017. Measure R guarantees full funding for the Gold Line Extension minus a gap of $500,000. With possible help from a private investment, the completion could be moved up to 2013.
Colorado Boulevard between Santa Anita Avenue and San Antonio Road will be closed for nearly 5 months to allow crews to build a bridge needed for Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension. The Colorado Boulevard bridge is one of three Gold Line bridges to be built on Arcadia streets. The stretch of Colorado Boulevard will be closed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week until April 30.

Yesterday Arcadia city officials celebrated the groundbreaking of a nearly $12.5 million Gold Line bridge that will be built over Santa Anita Avenue, south of Colorado Boulevard. Starting on or near May 1, the new bridge's construction, which would take 7 months, will cause lane closures on Santa Anita Avenue, disruptions and detours, including not being able to enter In-N-Out Burger from Santa Anita Avenue for 4 months. The bridge is being paid for by a voter-approved bond measure and city transportation funds.

Santa Anita Avenue's Gold Line Bridge was dedicated Tuesday, December 1. Bridge was built by taxpayers of Arcadia, funded by Measure A. The Gold Line Grade Separation Bond Citizen Oversight Committee was on hand for the event.
The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension had a ground breaking ceremony at Newcastle Park in Arcadia, for a project that would extend the line from East Pasadena to Azusa, with stops in Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte and Irwindale. This phase is fully funded through Measure R, the Los Angeles County half-cent sales tax increase that voters approved to fund transportation projects. First Avenue at Santa Clara Street in Arcadia closed September 9, 2013 through February, 2014 for construction of grade crossing improvements, as part of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project in Arcadia. Also, to construct the parking structure and transit plaza adjacent to the crossing, Front Street between Santa Clara Street and Saint Joseph Street, will be permanently closing in September.
Four day full closure of Huntington Drive and Second Avenue intersection in Arcadia begins Friday, August 8, for Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail construction.
Work continues on Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension project. Workers installed a 130-foot-high steel cage that will make up a portion of a rapid transit bridge spanning the eastbound 210 Freeway between Baldwin Avenue and Santa Anita Avenue. When complete, the 584-foot-long, $18.6 million Metro Gold Line bridge will be buttressed by columns designed to resemble Native American baskets. The bridge work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2012, while the entire 11.5-mile extension is due to be finished 2015. The bridge contractor is Skanska USA Civil. Construction of the rest of the line may be delayed due to problems with Monrovia's Redevelopment Agency.
Metro Foothill Gold Line crossing gates snarl traffic. Faulty part that was recalled worldwide blamed for malfunctions. There are 14 at-grade crossings throughout the 5 cities along the new extension: Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale and Azusa (has two stations). Arcadia has only one at-grade crossing, but some cars were stuck at the crossing for 5 minutes or more. Each of the cities is working closely with Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority to synchronize traffic signals with train crossings to improve traffic flow.
