Aerial view taken over Arcadia so that it shows a large area surrounding Arcadia as well as the entire city. Clearly seen is the Santa Anita Park Race Track, and the Arcadia County Park (shown as a dark triangle in center), and the 210 Foothill Freeway crossing photo from west to east and passing north of Santa Anita Park Race Track.
Aerial view toward the east taken from about over present Club House at Santa Anita Park Race Track. The main street running North/South is Santa Anita Avenue. View shows the oval of Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin's race track in what is currently Arcadia County Park. The buildings would be barracks of Ross Field U.S. Army Balloon School. Duarte Road can be seen coming into photo at right edge of photo near intersection with Santa Anita Avenue. The broad street along left side would be Huntington Drive. Railroad tracks can be seen in lower left corner.
View of Santa Anita Race Track from the parking lot, looking toward the front entrance. View includes hundreds of 1930's era automobiles in parking lot, all facing front. Tree on left of photo.
View east along Pacific Electric tracks showing Santa Anita Specials waiting for the races to conclude. This photo belongs to Southern California Edison Co. Historical Collection. It is shown here for research only.
Santa Anita Race Track seen from a distance. View is toward the north. The San Gabriel mountains are visible behind the track. Cars are parked in the parking lot.
View east shows two balloons aloft over Arcadia and San Gabriel Valley. It is possible that first river up from bottom of photo is Rio Hondo Wash. Some of trees along Santa Anita appear to be in extreme lower right of photo. Tree-lined street showing in extreme lower left of photo is Duarte Road. Second river coming into photo about five inches up from bottom of photo would be San Gabriel River.
Aerial view toward SW from position just north of Santa Anita Race Track with large crowd in attendance. View shows planting design on the infield, the clubhouse, and to the west, the former training track belonging to Santa Anita. This and stables were removed or relocated to make room for the Fashion Park. Baldwin Avenue was not cut through at this time. This photo belongs to the Huntington Library. It is shown here for research only.
Apparently a visitors' time at Ross Field Balloon School. Photo shows balloon aloft with basket suspended. Many people in photo. Closest to camera is left to right: man, boy, and four women. Eucalyptus trees all across background.
Aerial view taken from about over what became Campus Drive and Arcadia High School, and looking toward (NW) Pasadena and Sierra Madre at foot of San Gabriel Mountains. Photo shows Santa Anita Park Race Track possibly just a few years after opening.
View from above Santa Anita Race Track parking lot toward City Hall on Huntington Drive at the time of construction of Police Facility and additional offices at City Hall.
View north to Clubhouse and Grandstand at Santa Anita Race Track. There is large oak in foreground on right side of photo. San Gabriel Valley Mountains in background.
Aerial view toward the east from location about over Santa Anita Avenue at Santa Clara Street intersection. Santa Fe Railroad tracks are seen entering the city about in the center of photo. Broad white roadway seen toward left side of photo is 210 or Foothill Freeway still under construction.
Aerial view toward NE. Main thoroughfare cutting across east to west with young trees planted on north side, is Huntington Drive. Main race track at Santa Anita is seen almost directly in center of photo, with Club House on side closest to camera. The smaller oval near left edge of photo was a training track belonging to Santa Anita which was removed for the Fashion Park. The Chantry Flats Road up to Santa Anita Canyon is clearly seen as it zig-zags around San Gabriel Mountains. This photo belongs to the Huntington Library. It is shown here for research only.
View north across Santa Anita Race Track parking lot toward San Gabriel Mountains with three members of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Posse mounted for Peach Blossom Festival.
Aerial view from east looking west over Santa Anita Race Track shortly after its opening. Baldwin Avenue shows just faintly as a white line above track barns. Note total absence of homes in what we call Santa Anita Village and Lower Rancho.
Aerial view toward east of Santa Anita Race Track with enormous crowd. It may possibly be opening day or shortly thereafter judging by small size of trees planted along edge of property.
View looking east over area where Police vehicles are parked at Police Facilities. Shown are four squad cars and two motorcycles. Five policemen are in view. Note Bekins building in background.
The Queen's Float in the parade marking Arcadia's 36th birthday. The float is seen on Santa Anita Avenue across from present golf course. Boy on bicycle is not identified, nor are the Queen and her "court" despite searching newspapers for this period.
