Arcadia's float in the January 1, 1980 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. It was titled WHITE CHRISTMAS. Riding on the float were: MarrLin Greathouse, queen; and princesses Judi Bithell, Laurie Churchman, Tina Borgatta, and Amy Pfau.
Aerial view toward NE. Plane is over property of Charles W. Stewart (10 acres), and Jaspar Teague (10 acres), at 1320 S. Santa Anita Avenue, which is directly under the plane. Next street east is First Avenue, then Second Avenue, the Fourth Avenue. Reservoir is at corner of Valnett Avenue and Second Avenue and was owned by Walnut Grove Mutual Water Company (Valnett Avenue was first through street south of Duarte Road at this time and became Camino Real).
Small Spanish-style home. Address, at the time of the photo (1927) was 2747 Olive Street in Temple City. Numbers on Olive Street were changed and same house in 1980 has street number of 10159. This was girlhood home of Vera Van Houten and her family. The children went all the way through Arcadia schools as this home was in Arcadia School District.
James Jeffries, well known boxer is shown in defensive stance. He is known to have visited Arcadia as reported in a 1904 newspaper -- and possible to have fought here.
View of group of men leaving for military service from Temple City Pacific Electric station. Mrs. Van Iwaarden took this photo from inside their car after having said goodbye to her husband. She said this facility served Arcadia and Temple City.
View east shows two balloons aloft over Arcadia and San Gabriel Valley. It is possible that first river up from bottom of photo is Rio Hondo Wash. Some of trees along Santa Anita appear to be in extreme lower right of photo. Tree-lined street showing in extreme lower left of photo is Duarte Road. Second river coming into photo about five inches up from bottom of photo would be San Gabriel River.

Thatched conical shaped roadside fruit stand with the name SLEMONS' ORANGE WIGWAM,ARCADIA,CALIF. According to 1930 City Directory, it was located at 141 E. Foothill Boulevard. (McDonalds address in 1993 is 143 E. Foothill.) Owner was James B. Slemons. Two people can be seen standing near entrance.
Aerial looking west from a position just east of First Avenue and just north of Wheeler Avenue. Large white barn-like roof is San Gabriel Valley Lumber Co. building. This later became the Sawmill Restaurant and in the early 1990's became Sports Rock Cafe. Directly opposite, is cleared land where Arcadia Public Library, Fire and Police were previously located. Today there is a Medical Building on the site (65 N. First Avenue). Santa Anita Park and parking lot are seen in the distance.
Looking east over barracks and main building at Ross Field. Tree-lined street cutting across photo at far side of field is Santa Anita Avenue. The oval of the race track built by E.J."Lucky" Baldwin and which opened in 1907 can clearly be seen on right. Broad E/W street seen on far left is Huntington Drive.

Note area that was to become Los Angeles County Arboretum across top of photo. Note an open Grandstand has been added to the west of original covered one. There is a small dirigible in lower right corner carrying a sign that seems to read:modern motel. Present Baldwin Avenue would run where road in this photo is seen parallel to top of photo.
