Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin in carriage on his original track which was adjacent to Michillinda and near Colorado Blvd. With him is W. McClelland, Baldwin's horse trainer at this time. There are 16 other people in photo; some are mounted on horses, some standing. Etched on the photo is "On the track - Lucky Baldwins Place. S.G.V.R.R."

Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin on left and Richard F. Carman Sr., one of America's early horsemen. Photo was taken probably about 1907 and printed in newspaper of March 1937 at the time of Carman's death. Carman's horses won four races and placed second in two others on opening day of Baldwin's Santa Anita Race Track.
Eight boys (who appear to be about 5th graders) are seen in a kick-ball game at one of the elementary schools. In the background are other youngsters at play. A teacher appears to supervise (person with dark glasses).
Most prominent physical feature is Santa Anita Wash running north to south almost in center of photo, just above center(?). View north east across Huntington Drive to Carpenter's Santa Anitan, a drive-in restaurant located at 125 W. Huntington Drive. It opened on Nov. 11, 1939 and remained a popular eating and gathering place for many years.

They had built a circular art gallery on their property at 1380 South Santa Anita Avenue. The large buildings north of Teague's and to the west of Santa Anita Avenue are chicken houses. "I love a parade," Arcadia's float entry in the 1968 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, presented a boy on skates pulling a wagon in which the Arcadia Rose Court rode. It was 55 feet long and 17 feet high at its highest point. A framed copy of this removed from wall outside Admin. office and currently stored in map case in basement, as of February 2017.
