House at 180 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, located just north of the municipal athletic field adjacent to Arcadia City Hall. It was part of the Le Meridien hotel land but is being sold Salvation Army and moving to Pasadena. In the year 2000 this was the location of Oakcrest Adult Rehabilitation Center. In this photo, notice its house numbers in disrepair. See document "State Wars on Bookies." A house at 180 West Huntington Drive in Arcadia was raided and four men were arrested who were using binoculars to catch the race results and flashing them to bookmakers throughout the nation. Oval to the left of Santa Anita Park Race Track was training track which was removed to make room for Santa Anita Fashion Park (currently Westfield Santa Anita Shopping Mall). Street just to left of training track is Baldwin Avenue. Huntington Drive and Colorado Place form a "y" just east of Santa Anita Park Race Track. Along both can be noticed the conifer trees planted a few years earlier. Street completely bisecting photo just below center is Foothill Boulevard, next one is Orange Grove Avenue. Arcadia City Council members in a decorated Hupmobile Touring Car parked on Huntington Drive next to City Hall. Behind is a fire truck, also decorated, with 10 firemen on the truck or near by. The man at the wheel of the fire truck is Jim Nellis. The Councilmen are: Rear seats,L-R: Ferd E. Gram; Arthur N. Multer; and Charles Hawk. Front seat,L-R: Samuel L. Wheeler; John T. Joyce, the Hupmobile Dealer. Fifth member of Council, John Granville was not present. Seated at the base of the pillar of City Hall is Adrian Winkler and standing beside him is George Newton. The vehicles are on their way to dedication of new concrete span over Santa Anita Wash.

Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin on left and Richard F. Carman Sr., one of America's early horsemen. Photo was taken probably about 1907 and printed in newspaper of March 1937 at the time of Carman's death. Carman's horses won four races and placed second in two others on opening day of Baldwin's Santa Anita Race Track.

Volume I no. 1 issue of first Arcadia newspaper, THE ARCADIA BULLETIN. Paper included an article on the opening of Clara Villa which opened May 3, 1904. The paper has photos of five members of the Board of Trustees (now City Council) and also one of Arcadia's first City Marshall, Elmer Anderson and his brother, Charles Anderson, City Treasurer.

Looking SW from mountains north of Arcadia. Major tree-lined street running from mountains south is Santa Anita Avenue. Southernmost tree-lined street cutting across entire middle of photo is Duarte Road. Barracks at the Balloon School can be seen just below Huntington Drive. Notice that Huntington Drive stops just west of the Balloon School, at the Baldwin Ranch. Much of Foothill area was planted to citrus.
