Located on SW corner of the same intersection there was, in addition to the Service Station, a dry cleaners, a bakery, a fresh vegetable market, a meat market, a grocery store, and the Pines Cafe. View north toward mountains and at rear of building at 22 E. Foothill Blvd., which was apparently built c. 1930. It was used for a fruit preserve business, family restaurant, and real estate office. It's last occupant was the Copy Cat custom dress business.
Looking west across Baldwin Avenue to southwest corner of Baldwin Avenue and Naomi at Shopping Bag Market. It operated here from the early 1940's to 1970.
Shopping Bag Market (which is listed in 1939 City Directory at 1225 S. Baldwin) and the West Arcadia Service Station (apparently owned at this time by Blake Smith and Bruce Wetmore), located at 1221 S. Baldwin.
This is home built by Aloyosius Mauch for his family at their ranch at Palm Avenue and Holly Avenue in Arcadia. The first structure put up was a garage which son Henry lived in beginning in 1922 when family bought land. House was completed a few years later. Aloyosius was grandfather of Sgt. Richard Mauch of the Arcadia Police Dept.
Ericsson's Pharmacy located on SW corner of Duarte and Baldwin Avenue (1201 S. Baldwin). Note what appears to be called Spartan Market at 1203 S. Baldwin. Proprietor of market according to 1931 City Directory was C.N. Knott.
Ray Ramuz (on tricycle) with his mother Hazel at entrance to the family nursery at 404 S. Santa Anita Ave. Ray is the present (1980) owner of the facility, which became Arcadia Nursery about 1929. Son Ron is currently a partner with his father and will carry on the business.

Looking north east toward intersection of Santa Anita Ave. near point where Campus Drive intersects. McLean's Garage is plainly seen on the right. A large gasoline truck is parked just to the north. Farther north can be seen Arcadia Cash Market with another tank truck parked in front. There are at least 9 people seen standing by; one, a police officer, third from right.
Interior view of General Merchandise store operated by Selma and Paul Bachert at 221 N. First Avenue for approximately 8 years. It was called Arcadia Department Store. Selma Bachert is standing to left by glass case.
Looking west across intersection of Baldwin and Duarte Road to Hinshaw's Department Store, which was located at 1201 S. Baldwin. The street trees planted by the City of Arcadia are seen as an attractive addition to the street. Hinshaw's went out of business in 1992.
