Aerial looking west from a position just east of First Avenue and just north of Wheeler Avenue. Large white barn-like roof is San Gabriel Valley Lumber Co. building. This later became the Sawmill Restaurant and in the early 1990's became Sports Rock Cafe. Directly opposite, is cleared land where Arcadia Public Library, Fire and Police were previously located. Today there is a Medical Building on the site (65 N. First Avenue). Santa Anita Park and parking lot are seen in the distance.

Next street east is First Avenue, then Second Avenue, the Fourth Avenue. Reservoir is at corner of Valnett Avenue and Second Avenue and was owned by Walnut Grove Mutual Water Company (Valnett Avenue was first through street south of Duarte Road at this time and became Camino Real).
American Savings, which has been in temporary quarters at the southwest corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Wheeler Avenue in Arcadia since 1976, is seeking a new location. Site has been found at 30 South First Avenue but parking problem is proving to be a major stumbling block.

Main north/south running street to right of center is Michillinda Avenue. Oval adjacent to Michillinda Avenue is Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin's training track. Lower right corner of photo is abandoned project of Anita Baldwin and Joe Smoot, c. 1933 (about where May Company was and where Vons, a Safeway Company, Southern California Division Headquarters is now, at 618 Michillinda Avenue). Street running east/west across center of photo is present day Colorado Boulevard. East/west-running street near top of photo is present Foothill Boulevard. Pony Express Museum is just to right of the "y" intersection of Huntington Drive coming into Arcadia just below the wing of the plane. Theater that was opened in 1942 is almost directly opposite Museum. Santa Anita Motor Inn, two buildings east of theater, distinguished by tall tower, opened in 1938. (It was torn down in 1975.) The residential area directly north of there is known as Santa Anita Gardens. Santa Anita Avenue is just beyond Arcadia County Park on right.
View west on Huntington Drive clearly showing Drive-In Markets which were located around service station on SW corner of First and Huntington Drive. Moving picture theater is mid-way in block on south side of street. Church with tower on NE corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue was moved to South First Avenue about 1935.
