About 12 girls in white are seen walking across the lawn at front of First Avenue School (Arcadia Grammar School at this time, 1935). They have garlands of flowers over their shoulders to commemorate their graduation from 8th grade. Photo is also interesting because construction scaffolding is across front of school.
Aerial view due south from a position almost directly over sharp curve of Colorado Street. Showing in this photo are the Track and Club House on a day of large attendance, the stables, and a training track. All along Huntington Drive and Colorado Street young trees have been planted. Old-time resident Reid Greer says that the large tree at the very left edge of photo about 2 1/2 in. from bottom is same tree as seen in photo #654, on flat ground just below knolls seen here, and therefore he places homes of Indians on ranch at this spot. Reservoir is at corner of Valnett Avenue and Second Avenue and was owned by Walnut Grove Mutual Water Company (Valnett Avenue was first through street south of Duarte Road at this time and became Camino Real).

Apparently this was taken at the time Harrah's in Reno, Nevada auctioned off items that formerly had been in Arcadia at Pony Express Museum and had been sold to Harrah's some years earlier.

Arcadia Community Church located at this time on NE corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita Avenue, later moved to NE corner of First Avenue and Alice Street and became Arcadia Presbyterian Church.
Arcadia High School Marching Band playing in President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration parade in Washington, D.C. Band Director at this time was Ray Bowman. He is seen marching at left (next to motorcycle). The U.S. Capitol Dome is seen at the head of Constitution Avenue.
Arcadia Presbyterian Church at NE corner of First and Alice Streets prior to building new sanctuary in early 1970's. (Discrepancy in date of "c.1965." Per Teri Weeks, a long-time church member, this church building was torn down in 1961 and new sanctuary was built in 1962, so this photo was probably 1950s.
Arcadia Public Library's auditorium as it appeared shortly after the library remodel/expansion. At this time, new stage curtains had not yet been purchased. Part of the "History of the Arcadia Public Library" slide series prepared by City Librarian Kent Ross.
Cast of moving picture, THE HEART OF A RACE TOUT, the first moving picture made ENTIRELY in California. It was made by Selig Polyscope Co.of Chicago who had opened a studio in downtown Los Angeles. The movie was made to take advantage of the Racetrack built in Arcadia by E.J."Lucky" Baldwin which opened in 1907.
Charles Shugert, proprietor of Shugert's House of Toys is pointing out boundaries of First parking district to other merchants who would profit from it. Others in photo, L-R: Merry Clark, dress shop proprietor, located on N. First Avenue, called Merry's; Marge Becker, who had Arcadia Candies on Huntington Drive; Ed Beaty; and on extreme right next to Mr. Shugert is Bill Suhm, at that time owner of Arcadia Stationers.
