After five years of filing applications and lobbying in Washington, D C., Arcadia and Sierra Madre will share $6.5 million in federal funding to improve the earthquake safety of both cities' reservoirs.
After more than 12 year of negotiations between Arcadia, Sierra Madre and LA County officials, Orange Grove Avenue will get new pavement, storm drains and sidewalks between Michillinda and Santa Anita Avenues.
Among the many maintenance projects scheduled for the schools during the summer is a project to relocate the District's central library from the Administration Building to Holly Avenue Elementary School.
An 81-year-old West Covina man, Hao Liang, was struck and killed by a car when he was walking across Santa Anita Avenue, south of Duarte Road, last Wednesday, December 18, approximately 5:36 PM, at La Sierra Drive. The driver was a 36-year-old Monterey Park woman.

The annual Friends of the Arcadia Public Library booksale will feature 50,000 used books ranging in price from $.75 to $7. This is potentially the last sale since a book shop is part of the design for the library expansion project, scheduled for ground-breaking in November, 1994.
Arcadia aims to upgrade city library. The library is getting community feedback at a community needs assessment forum tonight and has hired an outside party to create a survey written in three languages. The goal is to determine what barriers they need to overcome to bring more people to the library and which programs and services need improvement, particularly in the technology sector.
Arcadia and Sierra Madre city councils met to discuss their joint water system seismic reliability project which includes what the cities can do to ensure water in the event of a major earthquake.
Arcadia and Sierra Madre's water supply to benefit from $1.8 million federal grant. Arcadia will get $900,000 of the grant. This will fund the next phase of an on-going, 5-year program to ensure emergency water for its citizens, following any potential seismic activity.
